10 YEAR BLAST ON THE BAY

More than a weekend music festival, after 10 years, the Blast on the Bay Nashville Singer Songwriter Festival has grown and become like a family reunion seeing everyone again and enjoying their wonderful personalities, music and friendship.  They share all of themselves and love it here as much as we do, and come back to little old Port St. Joe year after year, the third weekend of October.  They have written songs that artists like George Strait, Faith Hill, Blake Shelton, Garth Brooks and many more have recorded.  Plus we have several Nashville singer songwriter hall of famers like Charlie Black, Aaron Barker and Walt Aldridge.

My book includes pictures of the Nashville Songwriters, the fans and the people involved in putting on this wonderful festival.  Plus I asked many of the songwriters to write their own reflections on how they started writing, making it to Nashville and finding our weekend Festival in Port St. Joe.  We have shared songwriter workshops, songwriting competitions both inside our local Port St. Joe High School and from out of town inviting up and coming songwriters to compete for the Emerging Artist Showcase awards. 

Private Malone, as sung by Thom Shepherd and Steve Williams, brought tears and love as their other songs like Redneck Yacht Club and Djibouti have brought smiles and laughs.  Sharing this festival with the Semper Fi Sisters (see intro Chapter 1) the Blast mirrors real life, a balance of love, tears and laughter.

Nashville Singer Songwriter Festival

Anniversary was supposed to happen in 2018 but Hurricane Michael hit us October 10, 2018, ten days before the festival so it had to be cancelled.  Now Hurricane Dorian is churning up the seas and the Bahamas, we hope we can celebrate our ten year anniversary this year 2019!  So our 2018 10 YEAR BLAST ON THE BAY chapter relates to Hurricane Michael, a different BLAST ON THE BAY.
